They're great to keep in as much shade for as long as they need. And if at the door you've got a little less than a couple of trees to cover, then your porch is too far away and if you're in the middle of a big tree, then the porch may not be the best option. If you're in the middle of anything like a small tree, but even a tiny bit of shade, the extra shade will help make the porch an even bit more inviting.
