A 2010 report by Greenpeace International said that in 2012 more than 80% of cats in a field fell ill after being contaminated with chemicals containing herbicides, herbicides, fungicides, PCBs and other pesticides.
A report issued by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said those chemicals are responsible for about two thirds of the deaths in cats, one of which took place in an agricultural field in southern Ontario, Canada.
In a joint statement, Greenpoint Ontario and U.S. Greenpoint Canada said that some of the PCBs known to be in cats and dog food were found in cats.
Greenpoint says it continues to work with other countries, including Canada, to develop a safe way to prevent PCB exposure in other food and dairy products.
