house plants that aren't poisonous to cats or dogs but are made from toxic waste. It comes from a wastewater plant about 40 miles north of Indianapolis.

Daryl, of Indianapolis-based Clean Ohio, was part of the project.

"Our water is clean, clean," she said. "If we put it in the middle and we add extra chemicals — it makes a difference. So far it hasn't looked that far into the future."

Clean Ohio says its clean water has not been affected by the release of carcinogens, pesticides, waste products or chemicals that could pose risk to human health. Many water systems don't protect the environment from the health risks of chemical releases, like releasing more chemical into the environment, or releasing more hazardous chemicals into the water.

Daryl said she and her team are looking at many issues to better understand where environmental contaminants come from and to protect them from potential future exposures.

"We have to do this in a safe way," she said. "We have to be doing this as well in order to reduce those potentially harmful chemicals from our water."
