houseplants that don't need sun and can produce far less carbon dioxide than traditional plants.
"Solar panels are one of the most effective ways of increasing efficiency and eliminating waste in our electricity plants," said Kevin McGovern, an Associate Professor of Energy and Environmental Sciences at Northeastern University School of Forestry in Boston.
With its efficiency tools, solar panels can be used in large numbers in most parts of the country without the costly maintenance and design issues that traditional plants faced. The new technology, which uses solar light to convert coal to energy without generating electricity, is currently being applied to some 50 states.
Solar panels also have a small market share in some large areas. This means that even though they're cheaper, it still leaves the manufacturers of solar panels less competitive.
"To get a new generation, you have to design and build at the right levels. So, what this new technology can do is create an area the world would rather that we were using," McGovern said.
The work was supported by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NDL), the European Energy Agency (EA), the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the American National Laboratory (ANL).
"It's also much easier to use because you're using the right combination of materials and materials, and using the right technology and design for the right area," McGovern said.
McGovern and his colleagues at Northeastern University took a unique approach to designing solar panel design,
