It's no accident that the first of the five 'floods' in the city on Thursday started, flooding homes and businesses in the west of Laffaro.

A spokesperson for the city of Oaxaca said some roads had experienced "more than one flood."

Oaxaca has experienced several major flooding incidents since 2008, but this one saw over 40 feet of rain.

There have been seven separate local floods across the state in five years, with only one involving the area of Oaxaca.

As rain begins to fall and temperatures reach over 50 degrees, flooding in Oaxaca may become even more extreme. "The potential for a major levee level failure, catastrophic flood, and major river impact will cause serious economic damage to the city, communities, and its natural infrastructure," according to the National Weather Service.

This could mean a devastating impact on neighborhoods and roads to the same extent that a similar fate could befall some neighborhoods around the city, where floods can cause significant damage.
